PNPA Cadets engaged in a lecture about Investigation and its digital policing led by PCPT LEIZA O. BATANES, Deputy Chief, CIDMU.
Through interaction with the various units in the station, we can learn things that can only be gained through experience and cannot be taught in a classroom. In the lecture, we discussed the fundamental role and accountability of the Investigation Unit inside the PNP structure.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) is currently in the process of digitalizing its existing communications system. This is being done by acquiring Hytera Communications, which will now link its programs on peace and order, traffic management, and others. These programs will interface with the existing CCTV set up through the internet, including body cams for our police personnel, two-way radio communications, internet capacity, and flexibility, among other things. This is part of the strategic plans that the PNP is currently implementing. [1]
In addition to the significant advancements made by the government, the PNP wants to use cutting-edge technology as part of its digital transformation to combat crime, terrorism, corruption, and illegal drugs in greater detail. The efficiency of the investigation unit is significantly impacted by Next Generation Investigation Solutions (NGIS). For instance, the PNP's Information Technology and Analysis System (ITMS), also known as the Crime Incident Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS), assisted in the speedy and accurate transmission of crime information from lower units to higher headquarters.
The presenter also made a point to draw attention to the Women and Children Desk, which handles WCPD issues like VAWC, RA 7610, and other offenses involving the welfare and protection of women and children. PCpt. Batanes claims that due to the pandemic, crimes against women and children have increased, prompting them to develop a strategy to raise awareness through social media. [2]
This activity helped us better comprehend and gain knowledge of the investigation unit. As a cadet, I learned about the various techniques and methods used by the Investigation Unit to carry out its duty. This may include conducting interviews with witnesses and suspects, collecting physical evidence, and analyzing forensic data. I also learned about the legal procedures and protocols that must be followed during an investigation, such as obtaining search warrants and adhering to due process.
