Squad Weekly Interactive Meeting (SWIM)

Updated: Feb 17, 2023

Cadets assigned at Baguio City Police Office participated in SQUAD WEEKLY INTERACTIVE MEETING (SWIM) led by Pastor Jorge Benitez, a retired police officer.

The Squad Weekly Interactive Meeting is a regular meeting held by each squad in the Philippine National Police headed by a religious leader or a life coach. Also, one of the purposes of this meeting is to review the squad's performance, identify areas for improvement, and develop strategies to enhance teamwork and overall effectiveness within the team.

During the engagement of the Cadets in this activity of the station, Pastor Jorge Benitez shares a reading from 2 Corinthians chapter 10, verse 8, which states, "Therefore, I won't feel ashamed if I speak quite openly about the power the Lord granted us to build you up rather than tear you down." [1]

In this chapter, authority is discussed. Being a God-fearing cop means that PNP is accountable to a higher power, which makes them more conscious of their actions. They recognize that their duty to serve the people goes beyond law enforcement. They also need to embody the values of compassion, empathy, and kindness.

"If an officer has a problem, he or she can go to his squad group and address the subject with the group, and the squad commander will advise with spiritual intervention," claims PLTGEN Binag (Ret). [2]

Being a God-centered public servant is a significant characteristic of a PNP officer. It helps them to stay true to their mission of serving and protecting the people of the Philippines. By upholding a higher moral value, PNP demonstrates its commitment to integrity, justice, and the dignity of every person they serve. Their faith is a foundation for their work and ensures that righteousness and uprightness guide their actions.

As a Cadet, the Squad Weekly Interactive Meeting is a valuable program that plays a significant role in developing police officers. Through this program, officers can build strong bonds, enhance their leadership skills, promote physical fitness and well-being, and improve communication and cooperation among different units of the PNP. By investing in these activities, the PNP can continue to build a highly-skilled, motivated, and effective police force committed to serving and protecting the people of the Philippines.
