Patrol Operation

Updated: Feb 17, 2023

PNPA Cadets assigned at BCPO underwent a lecture on Patrol Operations led by PLTCOL Domingo Gambican

The practices or strategies Police Officers use to uphold law and order in the city are the subjects of patrol operations tackled during the lecture. Police Officers analyze and assess the area of their responsibility to find the best ways to keep people safe and maintain peace and order. Police presence in the community helps them use the most effective operational techniques to meet their goals.

Patrol operation is the fundamentals of the police operation and law enforcement foundation. This kind of police intervention is taken to limit criminals' chances to penetrate their plans and lessen the possibility that people will become victims of crime. Responding to requests for assistance and intervention is also a part of it. [1]

According to the demographic profile (Crime Mapping and Crime Watch) that PLTCOL Gambican showed us during the presentation, the Baguio City Police Office has ten Police Stations. Each has its jurisdiction and is set up to respond quickly to calls in a specific area. The police visibility principle is connected to police omnipresence, where it gives the public—including potential criminals—the impression that Police are present. Beat patrols with Police Officers leading the way are essential, especially during peak hours.

One of the BCPO's best practices, particularly for prevalent crimes in Baguio City, is Oplan Tambuli. The city's central business district was surrounded by many Police Officers, increasing police visibility. The constant use of megaphones to persuade everyone to secure their valuable items and their awareness of their surroundings. [2]

As a method for reducing crime, the Enhanced Managing Police Operation (EMPO) was employed. The crime prevention was through regular police operations and ongoing anti-criminality campaigns of the BCPO stations.

In conclusion, as a Cadet, learning about and applying the principles of Enhanced Managing Police Operations is critical for effective policing. By ensuring that police operations are conducted in a safe, effective, and efficient manner, that they build trust and confidence in the police among the public, that they prevent and reduce crime, and that they protect the rights of the people, Police can be more effective in fulfilling their mandate to protect and serve the community. As a future Police Officer, developing these skills and applying them in practice is essential to improve the quality of policing in the community.
